(ECNS) -- China successfully launched the PIESAT-2 09-12 satellites aboard a Long March-2D carrier rocket from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in northern Shanxi Province on Tuesday, and the satellites entered their designated orbits, according to Galaxy Space, a China’s unicorn company in commercial aerospace sector.
The four low-Earth orbit satellites were equipped with synthetic aperture radar (SAR) technology,offering all-weather, all-day, and high-resolution Earth observation. They will perform remote sensing observations and support various applications.
The satellite group enables millimeter-level measurements of structures such as dams and bridges, supporting applications in land resource management, earthquake monitoring, disaster prevention, and geographic information collection.
For this mission, Galaxy Space produced the SAR satellite group using an open supply chain for commercial space. By promoting partnerships in energy systems, payloads, and assembly, they reduced costs and improved delivery quality and efficiency.
The sun-synchronous orbit payload capacity reaches 1.3 metric tons (at an altitude of 700 km).
The launch marks the 553rd flight mission of the Long March carrier rocket series.
