Comicomment: Ocean is not Japan's sewer nor test ground

(ECNS) -- Japanese regulators began the final inspection Wednesday before releasing the nuclear-contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the Pacific Ocean.

The waters around Fukushima Prefecture are not only important fishing grounds for local fishermen but also a significant part of the Pacific Ocean and the global marine ecosystem. Discharging nuclear-contaminated water into the sea from Fukushima will severely impact marine fisheries, the environment, ecology, and human development and safety. It will cause incalculable damage to the environment, economy, society, and sustainable development, among others.

The ocean is the world's shared asset, not Japan's sewer, nor test ground. Such actions, which harm the common interests of all humanity, fail to convince the domestic public and other countries, and will only damage its reputation among the international community.
