(ECNS) -- Data from China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) shows that Tesla Gigafactory in Shanghai delivered 75,000 cars in April. Meanwhile, the official website of Tesla China shows that prices of its Model S and Model Y cars were raised by 19,000 yuan (about $2749.4) on Friday.
Tesla has twice announced price increases in China since May. According to the website on Tuesday, it raised the prices of Model S and Model Y cars by 2,000 yuan, hitting 231,900 yuan and 263,900 yuan respectively. The price hike covered all the models that Tesla sells in China. In addition, the car manufacturer also raised prices of cars in Canada, Japan and the United States.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, said Tesla raised prices not for market competition. Tesla cares more about whether customers like its cars and whether the cars are affordable, Musk said in Tesla (TSLA) Q1 2023 earnings results and conference call.
According to the Q1 2023 earnings results, its pricing strategy takes the long-term profitability of a single car into consideration, including its cars’ potential lifelong value in self-driving, Tesla Supercharger, mobile service connection, and after-sales service.
On April 25, Tesla officially announced the pilot opening of charging stations in the Chinese Mainland for some non-Tesla new energy vehicles. The first batch of pilot open charging stations include10 supercharging stations and 120 destination charging stations.
