(ECNS) -- The World Trade Organization (WTO) ruled on Wednesday that the United States violated international trading laws for requiring Hong Kong products to be labeled "Made in China."
On Aug. 11, 2020, the U.S. required the origin of Hong Kong products exported to the country to be labeled "Made in China."
Currently, the origin of Hong Kong export products is marked as "Hong Kong" as it is a separate member of the WTO and enjoys special status as a separate customs territory under "one country, two systems."
China welcomes the WTO's ruling, said a spokesperson of Ministry of Commerce on Thursday.
We hope the U.S. respects the WTO's ruling, correct the wrong actions with concrete measures, and maintain multilateral trading systems based on rules and normal trade orders, the spokesperson said.
