(ECNS) -- China's grain output has remained stable with over 650 billion kilograms produced in seven consecutive years, said Deng Xiaogang, vice minister of China’s Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Affairs, on Monday.
China’s grain output in 2021 hit a record high, reaching about 682.9 billion kilograms, with per capita grain possession of 483 kilograms, higher than the world-recognized food security line of 400 kilograms, according to Deng.
Self-supply of grain has been basically realized and Chinese people’s grain ration is safe, he said.
Deng also pointed out that the varieties are richer and more diverse than before, with supplies of cotton, edible oil, sugar, and gum developing steadily and meat, egg, milk, aquatic products and fruit, vegetable and tea supplies abundant, said the official.
China has maintained stable supplies of grain and key agricultural products since November 2012, laying a more solid foundation for the country’s food security, said Deng.
The Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Affairs will next provide more support to expand China’s food capacity to deal with uncertainties caused by the global situation in order to ensure food security, Deng added.
