(ECNS) -- A research institute at 21st Century Business Herald said that working data engineers turn out to be among the most sought-after professionals based on the analysis of employment data in China.
The research looked at information on university majors and job data, finding that China's economic transformation greatly affects job prospects. Big Data, artificial intelligence, software engineering and information security are the hot fields, according to the research.
MyCOS, a Chinese company providing data analysis for higher education management, said students who majored in software engineering ranked third in employment rates for graduates in 2015 and first in 2016. Graduates in the major also had the second-highest income for three consecutive years in comparison with other majors six months after they left school.
The research said rapid growth of the Internet and Big Data industries in China guaranteed the most lucrative career prospects for professionals in software engineering and information security.
It's estimated that China needs a total 700,000 information security professionals but universities have only recruited 30,000 students in the major.
The study also found that China's two-child policy will give rise to demand for professionals in pre-school education, which expected to receive more and more family spending. Eastern Shandong Province reported a severe shortage of kindergarten teachers following a second-child boom.
Job prospects look grim for those in the real estate industry due to governmental efforts to cool the market.
Professionals in automobiles, healthcare and sports are all expected to have a bright future in the next five years. Employment shortfall in the automobile sector is estimated to have been more than one million in 2016.
Bao Ming, an official of the State General Administration of Sport, said China is in urgent need of seven kinds of sporting talents, including professional managers and recreational sports operators.
