(ECNS) -- Beijing will set up a blacklist to improve the management and supervision of the city's elderly care services, according to a guideline on improving elderly care released by the municipal government on Tuesday.
Law enforcement will be strengthened to pressure care homes to improve services. Elderly care facilities that have received complaints from family members; been involved in the ill-treatment or deception of seniors; seen numerous accidents, violations of laws and regulations, including illegal financial activities, will all see such records put in their credit files.
Care services in serious violation of laws and regulations, and reluctant to make corrections, or those whose illegal behavior has resulted in an accident, will be made known to the public and reported to the relevant departments.
The guideline said that more than 80 percent of Beijing's elderly care facilities will meet the medical and hygiene needs of senior citizens in their care by the end of this year. By 2020, all will have to provide seniors with satisfactory medical services and support.
Moreover, care homes will be encouraged to collaborate with medical institutions in various ways to improve service quality.
Also on Tuesday, Beijing unveiled a plan to build 1,000 community nursing homes by 2020, each with a radius of no more than one kilometer, so the elderly can enjoy convenient services.
