(ECNS) -- Improper use of shared bikes in southern Haikou of Hainan Province will be recorded as part of personal credit information.
The city has approved in principle new rules guiding the management and use of shared bikes as they become an increasingly popular transportation choice.
Riders who are found to damage or alter QR codes, steal the bike, or violate parking rules will have their unruly behavior recorded in their personal social credit file.
The new policy also specifies the duties of government departments in managing shared bikes.
Haikou now has more than 40,000 shared bikes in use since they first became available on Jan. 24.
