(ECNS) -- Apps on social networking and videos are the most popular among Chinese users, according to a ranking by telecom carriers China Telecom and China Unicom presented at PT/Expo China 2016 in Beijing on Tuesday.
The monthly rankings are based on active app users among more than 500 million registered with the two carriers, said Lv Pin, deputy general manager of the China Telecom marketing department.
For users born in the 1970s, apps for social networking, videos, tools, news and information, and business stories made the top five, followed by those for maps and navigation, shopping, input methods, browsers and life services.
Apps focusing on social networking, videos, shopping, and maps and navigation made up the top four for those born in the 1980s and '90s, but life information ended up fifth for the former while tools took the No. 5 spot for the latter.
Music apps appeared on the list for the 1990s group, suggesting users look to enjoy life more compared to their 1980s counterparts, who are more pragmatic.
Men give more attention to news and information, while women attach greater importance to shopping, the report said.
The top five most popular apps in China are WeChat, QQ, Tencent Video, Mobile Taobao and Amap.
