(ECNS) -- The China National Tourism Administration has called for strengthened supervision of the tourism market during the May Day holiday and promised to strike hard against malpractices, Beijing Youth Daily reported.
The administration's notice vowed to address key problems - unfair competition, forced purchases, and unlicensed businesses - which have plagued the industry and aroused public discontent.
It also asked tourism agencies to be prepared for possible emergencies, including disastrous weather. Scenic spots are urged to control the number of visitors to ensure they keep within carrying capacities.
The tourism hotline on 12301 will offer services to tourists and deal with visitor complaints.
The administration also plans to publish information about notorious cases at the end of the holiday from April 30 to May 2. Tourists are also urged to behave.
Following the national call, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism and Development required hotels to prevent racial discrimination, such as refusing to provide accommodation or food services to people of ethnic minorities.
The racial discrimination problems must be rectified and dealt with according to law, it was added.
