(ECNS) -- A survey shows that most Beijing commuters buy new energy vehicles mainly for short distance driving, Beijing Morning Post reports.
The Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics and Survey Office of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) recently released a study that polled 2,746 adults, with nearly 90.8 percent of respondents saying new energy vehicles are perfect for short trips around the city.
Results show that 76 percent of those polled have used new energy vehicles and would consider renting them to travel short distances.
Some 52.4 percent of respondents said they have taken new energy buses, 33.4 percent have used new energy vehicle taxis and 18 percent have driven clean energy private cars.
Most had a positive attitude on environmental conservation and emission reduction of new energy vehicles. That awareness and other factors, including government subsidies and low-cost maintenance, have fueled sales of new energy vehicles, the report said.
But disadvantages of new energy vehicles, including limited charging capacity, short travel range and immature technologies, are considered the three major factors that make consumers hesitant to buy.
