(ECNS) -- Beijing has once again limited the amount of natural gas for heating public buildings and halted the supply to industrial enterprises for production since Friday due to temporary scarcity.
Supply of liquefied natural gas by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) suffered from a shortage due to continuous cold weather, according to a statement from the Beijing Municipal Commission of City Administration and Environment.
The statement said the demand for natural gas increased sharply because Beijing experienced prolonged icy weather as the city was hit by a 30-year low temperature of minus 16 degrees Celsius last week.
Affected areas include workplaces, department stores and entertainment venues. The measures are part of a contingency plan to ensure heating of residential buildings in winter.
As required, temperatures in public buildings will be set no higher than 14 degrees Celsius.
The capital city introduced a similar restriction last month due to CNPC's supply difficulties caused by heavy fog.
