(ECNS) -- Smart watches are becoming a new trend in China, equipped with GPS or LBS functions that help parents locate their kids and monitor their activities via cell phone apps. However, a recent report warns against potential risks associated with these devices that could be abused by hackers.
According to Wooyun.org, an Internet loophole report platform, 13 of the top 32 best-selling smart watch products in China have weaknesses that allow hackers to track kids.
Yu Feng, an Internet security expert, explained that hackers could "clone" parent cellphones bound to smart watches and obtain access to data. They could also turn smart watches into wiretaps to monitor the activities of targeted kids and their families.
According to China Central Television, the country currently has no national standards for wearable devices like smart watches. Experts hope regulations would be soon implemented to cope with related safety hazards.
