(ECNS) -- The third procuratorate in Dongguan city, a manufacturing hub in Guangdong province, is spending more than one million yuan (about $161,100) on high-tech tracking and recording devices to fight against crimes, reported Southern Metropolis Daily on Wednesday.
These devices include multiple audio-video recording and tracking equipment, of which some are barely detectable to the naked eye.
A pair of discreet recording glasses can covertly shoot both video and pictures with resolutions of up to 1280×720, while they can shoot continuously for 90 minutes.
A forensic phone can also take pictures using a hidden camera that can operate in dim conditions.
Such hidden recording functions are not limited to glasses and phones, but could also expand to buttons, ties, and hats.
Dongguan has also ordered automobile tracking devices that can work continuously for 12 days with an accuracy within 10 meters when attached to a target car. The tracker is "smart" in that it works only when the vehicle is moving and "falls asleep" when it is parked.
Among the gadgets are devices capable of unlocking the passwords of suspicious phones as well as restoring deleted content.
Further more, a polygraph and psychological monitor will be purchased to aid investigation.
It is consistent with Chinese law for procuratorate workers to utilize such covert devices and conduct important investigations.
