(ECNS) - About 60 percent of Chinese consumers don't want to voluntarily initiate 4G network services on their devices, citing "high data traffic" and "high prices" as reasons, according to two surveys.
A survey by the IT Channel of China News Service finds that 90.2 percent of consumers are forced to use the 4G network and 65.3 percent don't want it. Market research firm Data 100 also finds in its survey that 24.1 percent are forced onto the 4G network and 57.6 percent don't desire the service.
Respondents complain that the 4G network has "high data traffic" (28.1 percent) and "high prices" (27.3 percent), according to CNS.
The result is consistent with Data 100's result, which also shows that "high prices" (52.9 percent) and "high data traffic" (51.1 percent) are keeping consumers off the 4G network.
More than 22 percent of consumers believe the 3G network is adequate, while 14.8 percent regard the 4G network as "incomplete," says CNS. Data 100 puts the numbers at 28 percent and 32.4 percent respectively.
Once forced onto the 4G network, 29.5 percent of consumers choose to turn off the 4G function, while 27.4 percent start using it. Another 15.8 percent shut down their 4G services and 14.7 percent have made complaints to telecom carriers, says the CNS survey.
According to Data 100, 45.3 percent of consumers turn off the 4G function, 36 percent choose to negotiate with carriers or shut down the 4G service, 27.6 percent start using it and only 9.8 percent have made complaints about it.
