(ECNS) – About 19.2 percent of Chinese journalists have been victims of intimidation, threats or personal attacks during their careers, the China Youth Daily reported on Thursday, citing a survey conducted by the Beijing Committee of the Communist Youth League.
The survey also found that 10.1 percent of those respondents have experienced job-related disputes.
No significant expansion of social networks has been detected among journalists, however. Those surveyed have an average of 6.88 reliable good friends, with 75.2 percent saying schoolmates are their primary source of friendship. In the case of an emergency or in difficult times, 70 percent say their greatest support is from family.
Only 35.4 percent of the journalists surveyed are permanent staff of their organizations, with the majority working at various forms of employment, and 92.1 percent having signed contracts with their organizations.
Many news media organizations are phasing out differentiated treatment between permanent staff and other employees, offering market-determined salaries and benefits, according to the newspaper report.
