Illegal human placenta extracts from Japan seized in Central China

(ECNS) -- A parcel of human placenta extracts illegally mailed from Japan has been intercepted in central China's Henan province, according to the province's Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.

Near the end of 2014, the mail inspection office intercepted a package containing 15 boxes or 750 doses of human placenta extract injections, the bureau said.

The dispatch note claimed the parcel contained wood artwork, a fraudulent declaration, and that its receiver was to be a plastic surgery hospital.

Delivery of human placenta extracts to China from abroad is forbidden due to the risk of infectious diseases such as AIDS, hepatitis B and hepatitis C.

There are strict legal requirements that before importation, biological products from abroad must gain approval from China's Food and Drug Administration as well as undergo both inspection and quarantine.

The illegal parcel will be returned according to regulations.

Statistics indicate that in 2014, Henan intercepted a total of 4,034 batches of prohibited articles from other countries, a nearly fivefold year-on-year increase.
