(ECNS) -- Beijing will continue to prioritize the control of air pollution in 2015, though a decline of 5% in PM2.5 would be difficult to achieve, said Chen Tian, head of Beijing Environment Protection Bureau.

The capital reduced the density of PM2.5, the concentration of fine airborne particles, by 4% during 2014 as a result of unremitting efforts, Beijijing News reported.

The Beijing municipal government has taken a series of measures to combat pollution in the past year, with methods including transferring industrial production and the online supervision of output data, with companies facing fines if they violate regulations on pollution and emissions.

The city will also introduce congestion charge plans, with several relevant schemes currently under discussion with the Traffic Committee, according to Chen.

The odd-and-even license plate rule, a requirement of the Air Pollution Prevention and Treatment regulation, might also be adopted, he told journalists.

The State Council, China's Cabinet, has also established the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei atmospheric pollution prevention and control group, under the leadership of Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli.

Information sharing will be its first priority as the fundamental precondition to tackling air pollution at regional level, Chen noted.
