(ECNS) - A mortar shell has been found during the excavation of a Han Dynasty (202 BC—220 AD) tomb in Beijing's southern Daxing district, the Beijing Times reported on Wednesday.

The excavation was stopped immediately after the shell was found on Dec 15 and residents were evacuated for safety.

An explosive ordnance disposal team moved and destroyed the bomb.

Police suspected the bomb was left during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945).
