(ECNS) -- Hong Kong has just confirmed that a passenger on board the missing QZ8501 flight is a local resident who holds a foreign passport.[Special coverage]

The Hong Kong Immigration Department said on Monday that it has contacted the relevant consulate and confirmed that the passenger's family has received assistance.

The AirAsia flight went missing on Sunday while flying from Surabaya in Indonesia to Singapore with 162 people on board.

Two names on the passenger list, CHOI, Chi Man and CHOI, Man Suen Zoe, are similar to Cantonese names customarily used in the city, according to earlier reports.
