Beijing's new anti-smoking law to take effect next June

(ECNS) -- A new anti-smoking law banning the practice across all indoor public spaces in Beijing has been passed Friday and will come into effect on June 1, 2015.

Under the law, "indoor" means any space covered by a roof or enclosed by two or more sides, including an elevator, corridor, staircase or bathroom.. Smoking areas at hotels and airports were allowed on the second draft, but have been excluded from the final version.

Those who smoke in a public queues would need to pay a fine of up to 200 yuan (US$32.50) according to the new law.

The new regulation also bars smokers from open-air areas at kindergartens, schools, children's centers, seating areas at stadium and historic sites.
