China to set up blacklist for tourism industry

(ECNS) – China will create a blacklist of dishonest travel agencies and tour guides in an effort to establish a credit system and further regulate the market.

Peng Decheng, head of the financial planning division of the National Tourism Administration, said in an interview Monday that the government will enhance exposure of companies that violate laws or rules, or are deceitful to customers, as well as promote fair ticket prices at tourism spots.

The government will step up supervision and law enforcement, and encourage the public and media to play a larger role in reporting unscrupulous market players.

Meanwhile, scenic spots, cultural heritage sites and recreational parks are ordered to set their ticket prices based on government suggestions to prevent random price hikes.

Peng Fuwei, deputy head of the social development division of the National Development and Reform Commission, said most of China's tourism destinations charge high entry fees.

Most 5A spots charge more than 100 yuan ($16) for entry, and some even charge more than 300 yuan ($49). Spending on such tickets accounts for a much bigger proportion of Chinese people's average income than that of their foreign counterparts.
