(ECNS) -- A drama depicting the life of China's last emperor Puyi has drawn criticizm from his only surviving sibling for distorting the image of both hero and heroine, chinanews.com reported.

Cheng Yuwen (also known as Li Yuan), agent for the emperor's only surviving sibling Puren, issued a statement Monday morning via her Sina blog account, accusing the drama "Citizen" for distorting the images of Puyi and his wife Wanrong.

Cheng said she found "many of the plots unfounded and the dialogue vulgar."

She was entrusted by Puren to demand an apology from producers of the drama, Beijing People's Art Theatre and an immediate halt to further performances, else legal action would be taken.

In the statement, Cheng listed incidents such as Puyi exposing his underpants and referring to sexual impotence, as well as an hysterical Wanrong who ripped her clothes and shouted vulgar words.

Puren, aged 98, has fallen ill in bed and refused interviews, Cheng said.

Bai Yan, a marketer for the drama, said she hadn't yet seen the statement, but that they had signed a copyright contract with the drama's editor.

The Beijing People's Art Theatre is a prestigious company based at Capital Theatre. Unlike most stage-plays about historical figures, "Citizen" explores how Puyi adapted to life as an ordinary citizen during the 1960s, according to official publicity.
