(ECNS) – Four Chinese Americans, two born on the mainland and two in Hong Kong, had their names added to a Nobel Prize prediction list drawn up by Thomson Reuters, Hong Kong-based Ta Kung Pao reported.

The 2014 Nobel Prize winners will be announced next month.

Yang Pedong, from University of California Berkeley, was nominated for his contribution to nanophotonics and creating the world's first nanowire lasers. Born in Jiangsu province, Yang located to the United States for further study in 1993.

Zhang Shoucheng, representing Standford University, was selected for theoretical and experimental research into the quantum spin Hall Effect and topological insulators. He was born in Shanghai.

Both scientists were born after the foundation of the new China and received college educations on the mainland before reaching the US.

Of the two born in Hong Kong, Robert Tjian, of Howard Hughes Medical Institute, may win the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine for his research on eukaryotic transcription and gene regulation.

Ching W. Tang, in turn, may scoop the prize in chemistry for inventing the organic light emitting diode (OLED), which he discovered in the 1980s. He currently works as a professor at University of Rochester, and a chair professor at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Thomson Reuters' list has accurately predicted 35 Nobel winners since 2002, including nine who won in the same year of the forecast.
