China responds to reports about troops at border with India

(ECNS) -- During a regular press conference Tuesday, China responded to reports about Chinese soldiers stationed at its border with India.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying fielded a question about reports that 800 Chinese soldiers were stationed in India's territory near the Line of Actual Control.

"As far as I know, the situation on the ground has been brought under control in a timely and effective manner," she said. "The border area is in a peaceful state."

She added that China and India share strong will and good faith in keeping in timely contact, and are effectively managing the boundary issue through a series of existing mechanisms.

Hua also refuted that the cancellation of an India-China media dialogue scheduled for later this week in Delhi would impact the results of President Xi's recent visit to India, or affect the two countries' relationship.

President Xi's visit has propelled the development of China-India ties into a new historic phase, Foreign Minister Wang Yi told reporters at the end of the trip.
