(ECNS) -- A university in Taiwan has developed an app that can decode information based on a baby's cry with an accuracy of 92 percent, China Times reported.

The crying analyzer app can indicate whether a baby is hungry, sleepy, unwell, stressed due to a noisy environment, in pain, or in discomfort because of a wet diaper.

Chuan-Yu Chang, professor at the National Yunlin University of Science & Technology, said the research team had collected over 100,000 samples of baby cries over two years. By analyzing the frequency of screams, they eventually distinguished subtle differences in acoustics.

The decoder can be used on babies under one year old, according to Chang.

He noted that the university is applying for a patent for the app and plans to found a company to launch it to market.
