China reveals app for state-run search engine ChinaSo

Beijing (ECNS) --China's state-run sear engine ChinaSo's mobile app hit the market on Wednesday and is set to shake up the way people read news.

Based on data generated via People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, China Central TV, Guangming Daily, Economic Daily, China Daily, and China News Service, the app will offer users original and customized content.

It is an important step for ChinaSo towards connecting its search engine with the world of mobile apps, as 81 percent of Chinese netiznes spent "digital time" on mobile apps during 2013, according to a survey released in January.

Gao Zongtao, head of ChinaSo's mobile department, said at the press conference that from breaking news to business, entertainment, technology, the arts and sport, all divided into clear sections, the app lets users watch video reports, listen to live radio and read the latest updates wherever they are.

Users can select sections they're interested and put them into the navigation bar, he added.

ChinaSo, unveiled in March this year, is a merger of Jike and Pangusou, two Chinese search engines, both backed by national media organizations.
