Sky-high luxury authentication course runs in Beijing

(ECNS) -- A 10-day course on luxury goods authentication, costing 32,800 yuan ($5,364 dollars) has been held in Beijing, according to Beijing Youth Daily.

A course teacher surnamed Li, said students received theory lessons and practical training in luxury items during the 10 days. "After finishing the course, they are now capable of recognizing 70 percent of fake luxury goods on the market," Li added.

Students could obtain a certificate of completion if they passed final course exams, which differs from the qualification of a luxury appraiser. "No authority in China can issue such a qualification so far," Li explained, "and I don't think a person can qualify after a 10-day course alone."

Li noted that she had spent over 4 million yuan on luxuries to obtain better knowledge.

Most students on the course are workers at second-hand stores, after-sales service employees and sellers of luxury goods.

A teacher surnamed Dong, in charge of recruitment, said that to control course quality, such a class contained no more than 10 students. "We hope people joining the course are those devoted to luxury authentication," Li added.

Luxury authentication has become popular along with China's surging luxury market amid second-hand goods trade and rampant counterfeiting across the country. While lacking authorized standards, the industry is developing chaotically and cannot fully play its role in disputes between luxury buyeers and sellers.
