(ECNS) -- The Chinese government has denied banning Apple products from government purchasing, claiming that the firm hadn't applied to be listed, reports said, citing an anonymous official.

A leading official at the government procurement office under the Ministry of Finance said Apple's products are simply not on procurement lists, as it has failed to submit the necessary documents since June 2013.

Reports had said that the Chinese government removed Apple's iPads and MacBook laptops from those lists out of security concerns.

The government procurement list, which is geared toward energy-saving products, is co-released every half year by the Ministry of Finance and the National Development and Reform Commission.

According to the regulation, domestic companies are automatically on the list after their products acquire energy-saving certification from the China Quality Certification Center.

But overseas firms have to submit necessary documents to be included on the list.

Why Apple didn't file an application, or at least not right application, is unknown. Some insiders cited Apple's focus on the personal consumption market as a possible reason.
