(ECNS) – China's largest third-party payment platform Alipay said on its official Weibo account that it may begin issuing personal property documents for its users, the Jiefang Daily reported.

Alipay has provided account statements for its users at their request since last September, according to the company. Hua Lei, a director at the company, said they will standardize the service and try to encourage more social institutions to acknowledge financial documents issued by the platform.

A netizen named "LiususuV" said the British Consulate has acknowledged certificates of personal property from Yu'e Bao, Alibaba's online money market fund.

Personal property documents and accounts are essential for individuals to apply for visas, mortgages, and pre-marital property certifications in China. Generally, applicants get them from banks, and it can take several days to get the documents.

Yet many users have said that account statements issued by Alipay reflect their financial conditions, as a number of their transactions have been done on the payment platform.

Currently, Alipay has over 300 million registered users, with more than 81 million depositing money in Yu'e Bao.
