(ECNS) – The Chinese navy will send ships to participate in the military drill associated with the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC), said navy spokesman Liang Yang.
China will send four vessels, including missile destroyer Haikou, missile frigate Yueyang, supplier ship Qiandaohu and hospital ship Ark Peace, as well as two helicopters and two squads, said Liang.
China has agreed to join in seven exercises, including artillery shooting, maritime operations, warship formations, according to Liang.
During the drill, China's navy will host a medical forum with the US based on hospital ships Ark Peace and Mercy.
It will be the first time for China to participate in the exercise.
RIMPAC is the world's largest international maritime exercise, hosted by the commander of the United States Pacific Fleet (COMPACFLT) biannually. It takes place around the Hawaiian Islands.
Altogether 23 countries will attend this year's drill from June 26 to August 1.
