(ECNS) – Wang Jing, the first person to reach the summit of Mount Qomolangma, or Everest, from the southern slope, has denied accusations that she used a helicopter to reach the top of the mountain, the Chengdu Business Daily reported.

Zhang Cheng, board secretary of the outdoor sportswear company Toread, said that Wang "had no need to cheat on the climb," and that she had made it to the top of the mountain twice already.

Zhang also denied online accusations that Wang had tried to promote Toread. "Wang's personal act has no influence on the company's strategy for brand promotion," he added.

Wang's husband is Toread's board chairman.

Wang, 40, co-founder of Toread, reportedly reached the summit of Qomolangma from the Nepal side on May 23. But later several Sherpa guides and a helicopter pilot claimed that Wang took a helicopter from the base camp across a damaged route to the Second Camp at 6,000 meters, according to the Himalayan Times.

An official at the Nepal Tourism Board said Wang acknowledged using a helicopter to transport a cook, a porter and some supplies to the Second Camp, but denied having used the helicopter herself.

Using a helicopter would constitute a serious moral violation of tradition in climbing the world's highest peak, Reuters reported.
