Guizhou province to sell its fresh air in cans

Guiyang (ECNS) -- Southwest China's Guizhou province is planning to market its clean air in canisters and launch a campaign within a week to solicit product ideas from people around the world.

During a panel discussion with lawmakers during the two sessions, Chinese president Xi Jinping showed his appreciation for Guizhou's environment by saying that the province's air should be stored in cans.

"The president's humorous words demonstrated his expectation of a greener environment and his appreciation of the landscape in Guizhou," said Fu Yingchun, director of the Tourism Administration of Guizhou Province.

The canned air would be a kind of intangible heritage, and would have an effect on a wide range of industries, including tourism, health, organic food and carbon trading, according to Fu.

He said the Guizhou government will encourage businesses to make the product and use science and technology to support its development.

"A research and development team will also be organized," said Fu, who added that fresh air from scenic spots such as Fanjing Mountain and Leigong Mountain will be the main sources for the oxygen cans.

The first batch of air canisters is expected to be released before June 20 this year, Fu said.
