Non-CPC party suggests good-quality coal for Hebei villages

(ECNS) -- The China National Democratic Construction Association (CNDCA) has proposed that good-quality coal should be supplied to Hebei villages as a way to reduce Beijing's smog, China.org.cn reported.

Gu Shengzu, vice chairman of the Central Committee of the CNDCA, suggested in his proposal that the central government should provide more clean energy, such as natural gas, to Hebei province.

Shenhua Group, the country's largest coal-producing company, could be assigned to distribute good-quality coal to Hebei, which Gu considers an important measure.

Gu said emissions from steel plants in Hebei's Shijiazhuang, Handan and Tangshan cities, together with coal-fired heating in Hebei villages, constitutes the principal source of smog.

Beijing should coordinate with neighboring Tianjin municipality and Hebei province to help Hebei upgrade its industrial and energy structures, he said.

Smog continues to choke much of northern China, with national weather authorities issuing a pollution alert for a sixth straight day.

The CNDCA is one of eight non-communist political parties in China that participate in state affairs under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
