(ECNS) -- A 70-year-old man who lives in a cemetery in Henan province has gotten media attention after refusing government assistance.

The man has lived in a tent in the graveyard in rural Zhengzhou for at least four years and says it's his home.

The tall weathered-looking man told reporters from Chinanews.com on Wednesday that he made a living by scavenging through trash and storing food on his tricycle. He said he prefers cooking for himself.

The man refused to talk about his family and hometown, saying "no one has come to find me and I live in freedom here."

He has refused to go to a welfare center for the homeless, and said he would try to draw less attention to himself in the cemetery.

Many people who lived underground in Beijing's drainage and heating systems were removed from their makeshift homes after media exposure in January.
