(ECNS) -- Online sellers will be punished for deleting consumers' negative comments on products or services they have bought, the Beijing News reported on Friday, citing an e-commerce regulation released by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce on Thursday.

The regulation will go into effect from March 15.

Sellers are also not allowed to purchase fake positive reviews for their products to deceive consumers, the regulation said.

Violators will be punished according to the Anti-Unfair Competition Law of the People's Republic of China.

The new regulation also states that China's e-shoppers will be eligible to return goods bought online within seven days of receiving them without giving a reason.

Customers can unconditionally send back a product they purchase online for a full refund within a week from the date they receive the goods. The rule applies to all online sellers and online business services in China.

The regulation does not apply to the purchase of customized products, fresh and perishable products, digital products such as software and online downloadable products, and newspapers and magazines.
