(ECNS) -- A first-aid poster by the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) on the Beijing subway has been accused of misleading the public, the Beijing Morning Post reported.

Chen Zhi, deputy head of the Beijing Emergency Medical Center, posted on his Sina Weibo account that the procedure demonstrated in the poster by the Red Cross at Hepingmen station was incorrect.

The woman in the poster is pressing the soft tissue of the patient's neck, which will lead to obstruction of the airway, Chen said. First-aid practitioners should place their index finger and middle finger on the patient's chin bone.

Scanning a QR code on the right side of the poster, smartphone users can install an app which provides videos and images for first aid, reporters found.

The app is part of a global program, and the Chinese version also comes with videos and images, the website of the Red Cross said.

The actor in the video also makes the same mistake, said Chen. Besides that, a method called "Look, Listen and Feel" to judge the breath of a patient demonstrated in the video had been abolished since 2010, he added.

Zhou Rongbin, head of the first-aid department at the General Hospital of the Beijing Military Region, denied the accusation, saying the fingers of the demonstrator are in the right place and not touching the soft issue.

Zhou also said the public still needs to know the method, although it is out of date.
