(ECNS) – Two Guangzhou citizens on Tuesday filed suit against a railway company over the price charged for train tickets that do not come with seats, the Beijing News has reported.

Lei Chuang and Xiao Yan bought the "standing" tickets for a train departing from Shenzhen to Shaoguan, each of which cost 85.5 yuan, the same price as a hard-seat ticket.

Lei said the fare for a hard sleeper, which provides more space than a hard seat, is 113 yuan, but the fare for a hard seat is the same as a standing ticket, which is "unreasonable and unfair."

Lei and Xiaoyan have sued the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Railway at the Guangzhou Court for Rail Transportation. They are asking the railway to reduce standing ticket fares to 42.75 yuan, half that of a hard-seat ticket, and to return the 42.75 yuan the company charged them.

To the surprise of the plaintiffs, the court filed the case and will hear it on March 6.

Lei said it doesn't matter if he and his friend win the case. "What counts is that the proceeding will promote consciousness of people's rights."
