(ECNS) -- Beijing has tried artificial measures to combat haze in some regions, Beijing Youth Daily said Thursday, citing a weather official.

Wang Yingchun, deputy head of the Beijing Municipal Meteorological Bureau, said in a panel discussion at the Municipal People's Political Consultative Conference in Beijing that the city's artificial weather office has been conducting scientific experiments to reduce haze.

But she held a cautious attitude about it, as "it is a wholly new attempt." She also said, "We carried out artificial measures to reduce haze in some regions before, but the effect is uncertain when applied in a wider area."

Technology in this area needs to be approached with caution and more in-depth investigation, she said, adding that it also requires coordination from the government and research institutes.

A report last month said measures to reduce haze include artificial precipitation and fog dispersal.
