Beijing (ECNS) – Beijing is expected to try out an e-plate licensing system for vehicles in the near future, according to Fu Zhenghua, whose titles include vice public security minister, vice mayor of Beijing, and municipal public security director.

Fu made the announcement at a meeting on Wednesday night in Beijing, responding to Zhu Liang, member of the Beijing municipal political consultative conference, who said research has found that e-plates can help address issues such as motor vehicle theft and fake license plates.

Fu said e-plates are an "inevitable trend" as the number of vehicles increases, and that it is already in a pilot phase.

The e-plate system should be under the central government's management, Fu added.

The system will be promoted as technical issues are tested and improved, Fu also said.
