Chengguan dept most untrustworthy, survey finds

(ECNS) -- China's urban management department, or chengguan, is the country's most distrusted government department, the Legal Daily reported Thursday, citing a recent survey.

The survey from 2013 involves 540 randomly selected communities nationwide, and forms the basis of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences' annual report on China's social development.

One multiple-choice question in the survey asked participants to select the government agency they trusted most. The options were the police, the tax department, the social security department, the petitioning department, the people's court or the chengguan department.

The police received nearly 60 percent of the votes, followed by more than 40 percent for the court, which was the most trusted department in 2012.

This marks the second consecutive year for the chengguan department to have the lowest credibility.
