Sanya (CNS) – Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair said on Saturday at the Sanya Forum that he predicts his country would remain in EU.

But the country still has to deal with the public's anti-EU sentiment, which also exists in some other EU nations, Blair added.

Blair suggested EU continue its expansion, and he believed the expansion in 2004 was the right move.

Migrants from new member nations have caused locals' worries about employment opportunities. But Blair said being anti-immigration couldn't help settle issues existing in EU.

"I hope UK will remain in EU," he said.

As to the Scotland issue, Blair said Scotland should not opt out of UK, and that the idea was "stupid."

Blair also gave a keynote speech on relations between China and EU at the forum. European countries have established strong and firm relations with China, while relations between China and EU need further development.

Europe has been China's biggest trading partner and China's been Europe's second-largest trading partner, and daily trade volume between the two partners reached one billion euros, according to Blair.
