Tsinghua high school denies rumor about 'pig class'

(ECNS) -- A prestigious high school attached to Tsinghua University in Beijing denied on Thursday that they had put students with low grades into a class nicknamed the "pig class," the Beijing News said on Friday.

The newspaper cited netizens on WeChat who had described how the school divided students according to their scores into different classes, nicknamed "dragon class," "tiger class," "pig class" and "horse class."

The first two classes are composed of high-scoring students, while the low-score students are banished to the "pig class." The "horse class" is for students with strong physical skills.

The teachers always press students hard, saying that if they don't work hard they will be banished to the "pig class," the WeChat post said.

An employee at the school denied the allegations, but admitted there are two classes called "Youcai class" (talents class) and "Shiyan class" (experimental class). He refused to reveal the criteria for grouping students.
