(ECNS) -- More than 10 banks in South China's Zhongshan city suffered from a shortage of cash on Tuesday morning after cash delivery men refused to work, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

The delivery men are employed by a security company in Zhongshan city that transits cash to nearly all the banks in the city. Reporters visited the company Tuesday morning and found more than a hundred employees resting and chatting.

An employee surnamed Liu said more than half of all the company's employees had stopped working to express their dissatisfaction. Another said he only got paid 2,318 yuan (US$380) a month after working there for six years.

They also complained about management, saying the company fines them heavily.

The company said that all its employees receive an annual increase in salary and that strict management is necessary because of the nature of their work.

One bank organized staff to transit cash themselves on Tuesday morning to tackle the shortage, the report said.

The city government has been mediating between the two sides, it also said.
