No Chinese casualties reported in Russia air crash

Moscow (CNS) -- The Chinese embassy in Russia has confirmed that no Chinese citizens were on board the Boeing 737 jetliner that crashed Sunday in Russia's Kazan, capital of the Tatarstan republic.

A full list of the 50 people killed in the crash was released by Tatarstan Airlines, the operator of the plane. There were no Chinese among the dead, judging from the names on the list, according to a reporter at China News Service (CNS) who contacted the embassy.

The flight was making a second attempt to land and exploded when it hit the runway, killing all 44 passengers and six crew on board.

The Boeing 737, which had been in service since 1990 and was leased by the Tatarstan air company in 2008, took off from Moscow and crashed at around 7:20 pm Moscow time.
