Beijing cuts new car plates by 90,000 for 2014

《北京市2013-2017年機動車排放污染控制工作方案》任務分解表昨天發布。從明年起，每年24萬個的小汽車搖號指標將縮水近4成，配置機動車指標變為15萬輛，而且不同類型機動車配比額度會有變化。其中新能源車的配比率逐年遞增，從最初的每年2萬個逐漸增加到每年6萬個。普通小汽車的“限購令”則將逐年收緊，到2017年每年非新能源車的配比量僅為9萬輛。[查看全文]

(ECNS)— Beijing on Monday released plan for 2013-2017 to control vehicle emissions, which cuts the number of new license plates from 240,000 to 150,000 next year, the Beijing Daily reported.

According to the plan, 150,000 license plates will be allocated annually from 2014 to 2017, and the quota for alternative-energy cars will increase annually from 20,000 in 2014 to 30,000 in 2015, 60,000 in 2016 and 2017.

Buses and taxies will also be updated. Buses running on electricity and natural gas will account for 65 percent of public buses by 2017. Taxis need updates every six years. Alternative-energy vehicles are expected to reach 195,000, and public transit will take 52 percent of trips in the central urban area by 2017.

The plan also indicates that congestion charges, along with fuel pollutant charges and tiered pricing on gas, will be discussed, which will be implemented in 2015, if necessary.

With the new plan, citizens will find it harder to get a license plate. Statistics show that by Oct. 8, more than 1.6 million people had applied to get a license plate, but only 18,425 can obtain one.
