(ECNS) -- China's delivery men are quitting their jobs as online shopping season is just around the corner, chinanews.com reported.

Many delivery men quit after Nov. 11, exhausted by the Single's Day workload, and no one wants to keep working through the following festivals -- Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Spring Festival -- said one head of an Express Mail Service (EMS) branch.

Qiu Houjin, a delivery man who just started working three months ago in Hangzhou of Zhejiang province, died from overwork last Wednesday, Xinhuanet.com reported.

Delivery men from a Xicheng district EMS branch in Beijing said it was not such a rare case, as their salary is largely dependent on sales commissions, in other words, if you want to earn more, you have to deliver more.

But all are unhappy about the online shopping season. "Our workload will be doubled, even tripled, which is impossible for us to shoulder," they said.

A man surnamed Wang said they are already too busy to take a lunch break. Bread or instant noodles are their main options, not to mention the increased business on Singles Day, which is beyond their work capacity.

"We are asked to take money out of our pocket if we fail to deliver all the parcels, deliver to the wrong person by mistake or lose parcels," he added.
