(ECNS)-- An Indonesian man who looks like the US President Barack Obama sued a Chinese clothing factory for infringement of portrait rights in the factory's advertisement.

Ilham Anas, 39, is already a celebrity in Jakarta, where Obama once lived.

He has appeared on Indonesia's premier TV talk show, done an advertisement as Obama, and received other marketing offers from companies in the region.

Thanks to his growing fame in China, Anas could have gotten a chance to make commercials in the country.

However, a Chinese clothing company printed his portrait on a poster and showed it at an expo, which resulted in the loss of potential endorsement offers from other Chinese companies.

Anas said he sent a letter to the company through his lawyer asking the company to stop using his image.

After his request was ignored, Anas sued the company and claimed compensation of 600,000 yuan ($98,652).

A court in Shunyi district of Beijing received the case.

A lawyer of the accused company said that the company had nothing to do with the so-called infringement.

An application for a delayed defense by the accused company has been handled to the court, the lawyer added.

The case is still under review.
