Legless man plans to travel 7 Asian countries

(ECNS) -- "Legless traveler" Zhang Qingli arrived in Kunming, Southwest China's Yunnan province, on a hand-driven tricycle, to pursue his dream of touring seven countries in Southeast Asia, according to Yunnan.cn.

Zhang, 38, who lost his legs at the age of 8, applied for a Laos visa on Friday, and he is expected to get it next Tuesday. He plans to start from there to make his 7-nation trip, to Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Brunei.

"I won't come back until I have traveled to the seven nations," Zhang said.

Zhang also plans to learn how to make local snacks in each country and start a snack stall after his return.

Zhang used to drive a motor tricycle, but replaced it with a hand-driven one to save money and to be more green.

With no source of income, Zhang is depending on donations from sympathizers to fund his trip. For the upcoming trip, what concern him most are tires and maintenance parts, besides the money. He hopes kindhearted people can offer him some parts.

Zhang has traveled to Thailand and Laos in the past year.
