(ECNS) -- A policeman in Qingdao, Shandong province, encountered a burglary suspect who was an 800-meter runner at school, ran more than two kilometers and caught him, Guangzhou Daily reported.

After being caught, the thief learned that the policeman, surnamed Wang, is a marathon runner, who has taken part in several international competitions with good results.

"Generally, thieves couldn't run very long under such stressful conditions," said Wang. "I saw the thief had a strong build. I might not outrun him, but I could keep close after him until he broke down."

Wang ran into the suspect on his way to visit his mother, when the suspect was about to commit burglary.
